  1. Comparative Analysis of the Aztec and Taino Social Structure

•The Taino were pacifists by nature and very docile, while the Aztecs were naturally aggressive and domineering.
•While both held festivals (in honor of good crop, religious worship and ancestral remembrance) The Aztecs performed ceremonial sacrifice and cannibalism, which was never practiced by the Taino.
•In terms of education the Aztecs were much more disciplined and advanced in their education system, they had two schools, the calmecac and the telpochcalli, which were most attended by boys by the age of fifteen, girls did attend classes though, the calmecac was more of a private school for noble-born young men who were to be priests and elite warriors. The Taino though didn't have much of an education system at all, it was mostly knowledge passed by word of mouth from the elder generation to the younger.
•In both tribes it was noted that the societies were mostly patriarchal, women were mostly homemakers. Although unlike their Aztec counterparts Taino women were not as oppressed and could actually rise in power, even become cacique, this would never even occur in the Aztec empire, as it was a major taboo.
•Aztec men were mostly bred for war and leadership, Taino men were mostly trained to hunt and provide food for the village.
•Religion was a dominant aspect for both cultures, it ruled the social structures, they both were polytheistic and believed in animism and naturism, though it is noted the Aztecs had more Gods than the Tainos, also Aztec gods were very bloodthirsty. Priests were held in high regard in both cultures due to their close connexion with the spiritual world.
•Both cultures had their respective patron gods, for the Aztecs it was Huitzipoctli who was the God of the Sun and war. While for the Aztecs it was Yocahu, the supreme creator.
